A Letter From the Membership Director
Greetings, Members
My name is Russell Peachtree, Membership Director here at Cowboy Country Club. Along with my fellow board members, I’m proud to bring you the inaugural edition of the Cowboy Country Club Members Only Newsletter. Consider this your steady stream of club updates, essential announcements, and the occasional bit of entertainment—designed to keep our ever-growing membership informed, involved, and united.
Even as we welcome new members every day, our focus remains the same: preserving the close-knit camaraderie that sets our club apart. We pride ourselves on being a haven for the well-dressed, casually drinking, slightly-above-average golfer. And as always, keep an eye out… you may stumble across a hidden discount code redeemable at the clubhouse or online.
A Cultural Expedition to Cancún
My wife Marlene and I recently returned from an all-inclusive golf resort in Cancún, where we spent the week broadening our cultural horizons. Julio, our resident bartender and unofficial language tutor, taught us how to order drinks in Spanish and introduced us to the authentic Mexican method of taking a tequila shot.
The immersion challenged many of our preconceived notions. We’ll return home to Texas forever changed—and in my case, permanently sworn off flour tortillas.
Poolside piña coladas also gave me time to reflect on the incredible year we’ve had as a club. As 2024 comes to a close, allow me to thank each of you from the bottom of my corazón for your generosity, commitment, and passion.
¡Viva el club!
A Few Housekeeping Notes
Nicotine on the Course
It has come to our attention that members are disposing of nicotine pouches on the course. While your personal habits are your own, maintaining pristine playing conditions becomes considerably more difficult when citrus, wintergreen, and spearmint packets decorate our fairways. Please be mindful of our grounds crew—particularly under the Texas sun.
Event Naming Etiquette
I also need to briefly address an unofficial nickname circulating around the clubhouse for the Senior Ladies Tournament. While creativity is appreciated, referring to the event as the “Cougar Championships” does not align with the respectful and inclusive culture we uphold. Let’s keep our attention on the quality of golf these women consistently deliver.
Around the Golfing World
Charlie Woods recorded his first career ace at the PNC Championship yesterday. Video showed Tiger embracing him in celebration—though some have jokingly suggested it may have been both his first ace and his first hug from his dad.
Ángel Hidalgo, a 26-year-old Spaniard, claimed victory at the Spanish Open after a playoff against Jon Rahm. Fun fact: rumor has it that in Spain, golfers traditionally use clumps of Serrano ham as ball markers.
England’s John Parry surged back from five shots down to win the Mauritius Open, finishing the weekend at an impressive -14.
Your hidden discount code is the capital of Mauritius: portlouis20
At Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland—host to The Open eight times—plans are underway for a £100 million facility upgrade. Local golfers have been assured their playing rights will remain intact, so all you Angus locals can rest easy.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays
Thank you for being part of the Cowboy Country Club community. We’re grateful for your membership, your spirit, and your commitment to this club. We look forward to seeing you on the course and around the clubhouse in the New Year.
Until next time,
Russell Peachtree
