The Clubhouse Report: Week in Sports, Picks, and CCC Updates
Greetings, Members!
Across the pond, Rory McIlroy capped a dramatic finish at The K Club, rolling in an eagle on 18 and outlasting Joakim Lagergren in a playoff to win the Irish Open on the DP World Tour.
Week 1 of the NFL season delivered: Josh Allen and the Bills erased a 15-point deficit in the final four minutes to edge the Ravens 41–40, Kevin McConnell and the JJ McCarthy-led Vikings flipped MNF with a fourth-quarter surge to beat the Bears 27–24, and Micah Parsons and the Packers lived up to the hype against the Lions.
In college football, South Florida shocked No. 13 Florida in Gainesville 18–16, sealing the win with a last-second field goal. In Starkville, Mississippi State toppled No. 12 Arizona State 24–20 on a 58-yard strike in the final half-minute. Elsewhere, the top powers treated the schedule like an early-season scrimmage—Ohio State, Alabama, and Tennessee all hanging 70-plus in cupcake routs.
On the hardcourts of NYC, Carlos Alcaraz outdueled Jannik Sinner in a high-level heavyweight matchup to take the US Open crown. The "New Two" continue to impress, and Novak Djokovic, at 38 years old, remains on the hunt for his 25th Grand Slam title. On the women's side, Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her title against American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets.
CCC Bulletin
Signature Cocktail — The Fairway Fizz
Sparkling apple cider, lime, mint, and ginger beer. Refreshing enough for Sunday football, light enough for a twilight nine.
Public Service Announcement
Cart #14 remains at large. If it returns, the club will consider amnesty.
Public Service Announcement #2
Pickleball Court 2 is closed after an incident described only as "dangerously excessive enthusiasm." Further details are pending legal review.
Checkin' In on the Golf World
Last weekend, while you were watching football, Rory took the Irish Open in a playoff. With the Ryder Cup on the horizon, the Americans and the Other Guys have retreated to their respective sides of the pond. We've got dueling events coming up this weekend:
BMW PGA Championship — DP World Tour
At the Wentworth Club in England. A flagship stop with a stacked field and a key European tune-up before Bethpage.
Procore Championship — PGA Tour
At the Silverado Resort in Napa, California. Opens the FedEx Fall, heavy U.S. Ryder Cup presence expected.
Have a Great Week
